Crisis Response Social Worker

for Northumberland Crisis Service Pilot

Northumberland County Child and Youth Crisis Response Service

Temporary, Full-Time – 35 hours*/week 

*the successful incumbent will be required to work some evenings to 7pm

Hourly Rate: $35.43 - $37.24- $39.06

 

Job Summary:

In this Crisis Service Pilot, the Child and Youth Crisis Response Worker provides telephone and/or face to face mental health crisis intervention for children and youth, and their families.  Crisis intervention involves assessing risk, developing risk safety plans, providing stabilization strategies, and supporting children/youth and families with brief service interventions until a longer-term service plan can be determined.  The Crisis worker will liaise with community partners such as hospitals, schools, police, and other crisis service agencies (e.g. Four Counties Crisis) along with the existing Northumberland Crisis Services Working Group in contributing to the development of an enhanced crisis service model.  Other responsibilities include working in an inter-disciplinary and inter/intra agency work environment.  Effective team work skills are essential along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide crisis services to children/youth in Northumberland:

  • Identify presenting concerns and assess risk
  • Develop plans with families to stabilize the crisis and create safety plans to address risk
  • Connect children/youth and their families with other resources as required
  • Provide brief crisis/stabilization support to youth and families in office, community and in-home

 

Provide waitlist services for children/youth waiting for Kinark services who go into crisis

 

Work collaboratively with the Northumberland Crisis Services Working Group to:

  • Develop an enhanced crisis service for Northumberland through community partnerships and service agreements
  • Create clear pathways to/from crisis services and other community partners
  • Promote the crisis service and raise awareness of how to access the service
  • Participate in the development of an evaluation plan including outcome criteria and metrics to determine effectiveness of the pilot

 

Qualifications:


  • A Master's Degree in Health and Social Services or Social Work is preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree Social Work, with extensive and relevant experience will also be considered. 
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), the College of Nursing (CNO), the College of Psychology, or the College of Occupational Therapist.  
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in children’s mental health and experience providing crisis intervention with children, youth and families preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently is required.
  • Practitioner training in Crisis Intervention, Brief Services, Risk Assessment, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy are considered assets.
  • Training in Suicide Risk Assessment/support (ASIST by Living Works) considered an asset and/or other youth suicide intervention training.
  • Travel is required for this position, the successful incumbent must have a valid Ontario driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to obtain automobile insurance which includes driving for business purposes with a minimum liability of one million dollars.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening) and Pre-Employment Medical. 
  • Candidates Bilingual in English and French will be given special consideration.
