We currently have an opportunity for a:

Social Worker

Durham– Stop Now and Plan (SNAP)

Temporary, Full-Time –35 hours*/week


The successful candidate will be required to work flexible hours including at minimum 2 evenings per week. In addition they may be required to work within the clients’ home, in community, and/or in the school environment.


Job Summary:

Reporting to the Supervisor, SNAP Boys and Girls, the Social Worker must have a sound understanding of the theories that inform the development and treatment of problem behaviours and emotional difficulties in latency-aged children and their families. The Social Worker must engage often hard-to reach clients and work collaboratively with the family to develop a treatment plan tailored to their individual strengths and needs, managing risky behaviours when necessary. In addition the Social Workers will be providing therapy to the children and provide support to the parents while endorsing a scientist-practitioner model, delivering an evidence-based program which includes individual, family and group counselling.


Duties & Responsibilities (are not limited to):

  • Assesses child and family strengths and needs, including risk identification.
  • Develops treatment plans and goals with the family addressing risk management.
  • Carries out various treatment components including individual, family and group counselling with parents/caregivers and child.
  • Implements SNAP therapeutic model guided by CBT framework and additional modalities as required.
  • Manages high-risk and aggressive behaviour in accordance with agency standards.
  • Follows program guidelines including writing of reports and record keeping.
  • Provide case management and service co-ordination as required and liaise with internal and community resources/partners(e.g. police) and acts as an advocate when needed.
  • Participation in quality assurance, evaluation and research activities.



  • A Master' Degree in Health and Social Services or Social Work is preferred - Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in Health and Social Services or Social Work with extensive and relevant experience will also be considered
  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Worker and Social Services Worker.
  • Clinical/mental health experience working with complex needs clients is preferred
  • Working with families, encountering or facing parenting challenges and child mental health/or behavioral issues is preferred.
  • A highly developed clinical intervention skill set
  • Excellent communication, organizational, engagement and sustainability skills
  • Working knowledge of evidence informed therapy models and techniques, and the ability to work with families in a culturally sensitive manner
  • Familiarity with fundamentals of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, parent management training, and behavior management.
  • Experience with trauma and attachment interventions an asset
  • Computer literacy and effective report writing abilities
  • Enthusiasm, versatility and adaptability skills
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team 
  • Advance knowledge of group dynamics is required.
  • Travel is required for this position, the successful candidate must have a valid Ontario driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to obtain automobile insurance which includes driving for business purposes with a minimum liability of one million dollars
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening) and Pre-Employment Medical.
  • Candidates Bilingual in English and French will be given special consideration.
