Kinark Child and Family Services is a leading child and youth service organization in Ontario which provides a wide range of evidence-based services that include individual, family and group counselling for children and youth with complex needs and their families.  Kinark’s three program streams include: Community-Based Child and Youth Mental Health, Autism and Forensic Mental Health/Youth Justice.

Kinark Child and Family Services ( is an Accredited Children's Mental Health Organization committed to providing a range of services and a high standard of care for youth and their families throughout Ontario.  Intensive Support and Supervision Program (ISSP)  was developed as an alternate to custody for youth in conflict with the law.  ISSP is a court-ordered, community-based, alternative to custody initiative under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The program is designed serve youth who have a known mental health diagnosis by a qualified professional. Examples of these diagnoses are mood, anxiety, trauma-related, or psychotic disorders that would benefit from ongoing clinical intervention and continuous support. ISSP also requires voluntary participation and ongoing engagement from the youth for success.

Clinical Therapist - Social Worker

ISSP– Barrie, ON

Temporary, Full Time (12 Months Contract)

This position involves working flexible hours, which will often include some evening and occasional weekend work, including supporting the 24-hour on-call telephone line.  


Job Summary duties and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Lead Manager, Forensics, the Clinical Therapist is responsible to deliver individual and family therapy sessions in an intense and multi-faceted community-based program.  The successful incumbent will provide tools and a venue for positive behaviour change and champion partners in youth’s ecology to provide a network of support, supervision and monitoring. 


Further responsibilities include:  Development and adherence to treatment plan requirements; utilizing computer case file management systems; contributing to and partaking in dynamic, systemic, individual and team supervision; and sharing 24 hour on-call duties.



o    A Bachelor Social Work degree  with minimum 3 years related experience;

o    Current membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers.

o    Experience working with youth in the youth justice field, experience in Ontario is an asset;

o    Highly developed clinical intervention skill set crisis management, skills development, family systems therapy, and, treatment for youth ages 12 – 20 years old.

o    Working knowledge of evidence based therapy models and techniques;

o    Excellent communication skills, engagement,  and sustainability skills, and dependable report writing ability;

o    Enthusiasm, versatility, adaptability, and culturally sensitivity;

o    Travel is required for this position, the successful incumbent must have a valid Ontario driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to obtain automobile insurance which includes driving for business purposes with a minimum liability of one million dollars.
