Director of Nursing Leadership and Development

Temporary, Full-Time (24 month contract)

Job Summary

Reporting to the VP Program Services & COO, the Director of Nursing Leadership and Development is responsible for providing the strategic vision, direction, leadership and guidance for enabling full scope of nursing practice at Kinark. The Director of Nursing and Development provides linkages between professional practice and operational activities which enhances interprofessional collaboration and contributes to excellent client care. This role also provides leadership in the areas of professional development for nursing staff (RN/NP/NM) and strategic clinical advice and expertise to the organization.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanisms to support nurses (all levels) to meet standards, expectations and quality outcomes associated with full scope of practice
  • Supports the development and implementation of a fully integrated, interprofessional model of care, based on client and organizational needs
  • Uses recognized and evaluated frameworks to develop, operationalize and evaluate interprofessional, collaborative practice & programs
  • Creates and supports a culture that enables introduction and utilization of best practice guidelines, algorithms and evidence across programs, disciplines and areas within Kinark
  • Assists in development of capacity within Kinark to examine outcomes, measure impact and to evaluate the utility and effectiveness of clinical practice and programs
  • Assists in the development of capacity to understand, utilize and initiate research to support quality care, enhanced safe practices/processes and best use of clinical expertise
  • Stays current and aware of regulatory College expectations and standards, and legislative changes as driven by discipline-specific factors, political, health care and mental health realities. Ensures nurses meet these expectations and regulations
  • Addresses escalated issues around practice and ensures reporting to the College occurs promptly and correctly when required
  • Consults with other leaders in the organization to ensure policies, processes and procedures consistently support nursing regulatory requirements, scope of practice and needs of clients/families
  • Works with Kinark Leadership Team to enable the organizational strategic direction with specific attention to the role of full scope of nursing practice in meeting these goals
  • Assist in the development of markers to measure organizational operational quality
  • Represents the organization externally in areas of policy, practice, education and research

Qualifications

  • Completed Masters degree in Nursing or equivalent required
  • Current Certified Health Executive designation would be an asset
  • Member of the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing
  • Member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
  • Evidence of personal, professional liability insurance
  • 5-10 years progressive leadership experience required
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable sector screening)
  • Pre-employment physical required
  • Bilingual (English/French) would be an asset
  • Experience in mental health, judicial or child/adolescent setting an asset
  • Demonstrated dynamic and respected leader within Healthcare and allied fields in Ontario
  • Deep understanding of College of Nurses of Ontario standards, regulations and legislation, including scope of practice for nurses
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret current clinical research and its application to practice
  • Demonstrated knowledge of development, measurement and evaluation of outcome indicators and targets
  • Familiar with pertinent Best Practice Guidelines for this setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of resource allocation, budgeting, service planning and labor relations
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including: problem-solving, negotiations, conflict-resolution and communication
