Temporary Full Time and Part Time Positions


Job Summary:

Reporting to the Central Intake Supervisor, the Intake Worker responds to a combination of telephone and email inquiries.  The Intake Worker provides client service by responding to requests for service, assessing client needs, and completing referrals for appropriate services within the community.   Further duties include: gathering client demographics, demonstrating strong clinical judgment and risk assessment skills, and a strong knowledge of and partnership with multiple community agencies.   The successful incumbent will be required to work flexible hours including evening work.  Central Intake completes referrals for Kinark as well as multiple Children's Mental Health and Autism agencies.  The position requires that the Intake Worker deal with the public and manage stressful situations at times.  The opportunity for using crisis interventions skills exists regularly.    


Please Note: The Intake Worker position is primarily based out of the Durham Program (Whitby, ON). 



  • College Diploma or University Degree in Child and Youth Studies, Social Services, Social Work, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years recent direct clinical experience in the children’s mental health field. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of psychosocial influences on children, youth, and families.
  • Training and experience managing urgent/crisis phone calls and developing appropriate safety plans.
  • Intake/assessment and mental health call-centre experience is an asset.
  • Strong teamwork and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
  • Familiarity with community resources, Ontario Autism Program (OAP), the Child and Family Service Act and the Mental Health Act.
  • Familiarity with Kinark Information Database System (KIDS) computer system is an asset.
  • Travel may be required for this position (based on travel for meetings and/or training); the successful candidate must have a valid Ontario driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle and automobile insurance which includes driving for business purposes with a one million dollar liability.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening) and Pre-Employment Medical. 
  • Fluency in other languages considered an asset.
