Kinark Child and Family Services is a leading child and youth service organization in Ontario, which provides a wide range of evidence-based services that include individual, family and group counselling for children and youth with complex needs and their families.  Kinark’s three program streams include: Community-Based Child and Youth Mental Health, Autism, and Forensic Mental Health/Youth Justice. 


We currently have an opportunity for a: 

Director of Finance

  Full-Time – 35 hours per week

Head Office - Markham, ON

Start Date: June 18, 2018



Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Finance is responsible for the following:

  • Supports the development and execution of annual plans. Highlight variances, risks and progress versus plans and ensure remedial actions are implemented
  • Ensure compliance with not-for-profit accounting and ministry reporting requirements & practices
  • Review and administer procurement contracts to ensure compliance with internal and BPS procurement guidelines
  • Oversee the management of Kinark offices, facilities and properties
  • Manage corporate finance services staff including succession planning and smart goals/performance management 
  • Indirectly oversee administrative functions in the various offices
  • Manage and maintain risk register to ensure internal controls remain effective
  • To enable decision making, prepare financial material to be used in communications for senior management, finance and audit committee and the Board
  • Assist in the management of corporate legal items
  • Manage the insurance portfolio for the agency
  • Review internal financial processes and procedures to identify and implement process improvements
  • Liaison with the ministry, financial institutions, external auditors and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance and timely completion of Ministry quarterly and annual reporting requirements
  • Stay current of developments in NFP accounting and reporting guideline, IT systems and business processes
  • Update the Company's financial and accounting policies as needed in the application and adherence to policies
  • Provide financial support for other project and initiatives through completion of ad hoc analysis and reports



  • Professional Accounting Designation
  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting/Finance or above
  • 10 years of supervisory or managerial experience
  • Advanced skills with MS Office 365 (productivity tools) including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote
  • Working knowledge of accounting software and/or ERP systems (i.e Great Plains, SAP etc.)
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial controls and not-for-profit accounting guidelines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with superior analysis and problem-solving skills
