Kinark Child and Family Services is a leading children’s mental health organization in Ontario, which provides evidence-based services that include individual, family and group counseling for children and youth living with mental health issues. Kinark’s three pillars of services include: Community-based Child and Youth Mental Health, Autism, and Forensic Mental Health/Youth Justice.

 

Syl Apps Youth Centre (Syl Apps) is a secure youth mental health facility in Oakville that can provide support for up to 48 youth at a time. Syl Apps operates three programs: (1) Secure treatment (mandated by the Child & Family Services Act—CFSA) (males and females) ;  (2) Secure detention and custody (mandated by the Youth Criminal Justice Act—YCJA) (males and females); and (3) It is also the only facility in Ontario designated to accept youth by order of the Ontario Review Board.   We are committed to providing a range of services and a high standard of care for young people and their families.

Relief Youth Workers*

Syl Apps Youth Centre – Oakville

*There are no guarantee of hours, and the successful candidates may be required to work shifts during the day, overnight and weekend

 

Job Summary:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Youth Worker to join our team within an Accredited Children’s Mental Health Facility. As a member of the interdisciplinary team the responsibilities will include: interacting with acute mental health youth through the implementation of their treatment plans.

 

The Youth Worker will be responsible for engaging youth in the residential programs and activities including daily routines, recreation, education, clinical and medical interventions. In addition, the Youth Worker may be required to drive and/or escort youth to court and other appointments.

 

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of diploma programs in Child and Youth Worker, Community Corrections, Recreation and Leisure, Social Service Worker or Behavioral Sciences.

  • Minimum of  3 years’ experience is required where you have engaged with a high risk adolescent population presenting criminogenic, cognitive impairment and/or mental health challenges within a youth justice/ mental health residential treatment setting.

  • In lieu of the above noted educational requirements, we will also consider applicants who have a minimum of 7 years’ experience working with a high risk adolescent population.This experience can be inclusive of criminogenic, cognitive impairment and/or mental health challenges within a youth justice/ mental health treatment setting.

  • Current First Aid/CPR Level C certificate. 

  • Knowledge and working experience with Evidence Based Practices and Dialectical Behavior Therapy is preferred. 

  • Valid Ontario driver’s license will be considered an asset.

    Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening) and Pre-Employment Medical.  

 

Successful Candidates will be required to attend a full time orientation held in January 2018.
